This is my first sword. It came in perfect condition. The handle and wrapping were tight. The blade was very nice with no defects. The sword has a good edge but needed some final sharpening to slice stuff up. I filled a plastic bottle with water and it busted/cut it some and knocked it into the bushes. I sharpened it a little and re-tried my test. It sliced through with so little resistance it was a little scary. This thing is ready to go now. I also waxed the scabbard and it really made it shine. If its as tough as the videos show...its a keeper. I also bought a bokken to practice with.....which was a good call because a mistake might cost me some stitches or worse. :D

Purchased this Katana for my son. I am not terribly familiar with Japanese swords but am very happy with my purchase. The sword arrived significantly before the expected delivery date and was in perfect condition. Unpacked, the sword is contained in a decorative cloth bag with a gold cord with tassels. The wooden sheath is high gloss black with some decorative accents and very nice in appearance and quality. The Katana itself to me seems to be very well made with a sharp edge. Taking off the protective plastic sleeve and removing the factory oil protectant reveals a beautiful dark reddish/brown hue. For anyone looking for an authentic cutting sword, this is a great choice. This is the more refined version of the Hanwei Practical Katana Sword. I did some research and this rated well in many sword enthsiast forums. It comes with a tag from Hanwei that provides a serial number to document that this is a Hanwei sword. The workmanship is so beautiful for a sword of this price that I have not had the heart to cut with it yet. Not going to lie I expect this to be a complete s*** of a blade. Meaning like the cheap ones you get, were the blade rattles, you can remove everything with a single bolt, welded together on some little piece of metal, duller than a butter knife, rusty, easily bend, etc. This has been everything that but that, I was SHOCKED! Put together properly, not a single rattle sound, blade fit into the sheath, has a smooth unsheathing to it as well. Taking it apart was a little tough to how tightly the handle was fitted, which is good.The blade held up well against my friend's $1k Bungei sword, yes I compared a cheap Amazon sword to the glory of Bungei scream at me all you want.

I purchased this along with several other swords. Bottomline: you can really hurt someone or yourself with this weapon. However, if you plan on doing some sword battle with a couple of Samurai...you will definitely need either a better sword, or a 30 yard head start. But do not believe reviews that criticize this sword and it's sharpness or capabilities to do harm. It's sharp enough and will give even a novice an opportunity to train with something decent. Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

I have a black belt in kenjutsu (Kuki Shinden-Ryu Happo Bikenjutsu) and this is one of my favorite swords. Even though it was not manufactured in a traditional way, it is proof that modern manufacturing techniques can mass produce swords that any ancient samurai would have envied. Full tang Authentic everything including beautiful hamon! I would recommend this blade to anyone looking for a cheap but well made and truly battle ready. I have put this blade through hell and back and it still looks amazing. However I have polished and sharpened along the way I have had this blade for about a year now and it is my favorite. The first thing I did when i got it was a paper test, after i wiped off all the oil/wax it was coated in for storage/shipping. it cut well, then reoiled it. There was a few scuffs on the blade up near the point but they didn't really concern me, I took off the handle to see the full tang, and getting the bamboo pegs out was sort of a difficult task for the first time, they were in there tight, and getting the handle away from the tsuba was very hard because of how tight it is, (same goes for putting it back on). all in all, a very well made sword, beautifully decorated tsuba, i looked at a lot of different functional swords 200 dollars and less before I decided on this one, and I'm happy I did. even with the scuffs, I still look forward to getting a display stand and displaying this thing. There is a tiny dent on the front tsuba guard, (the piece between the tsuba and the blade that can't even be removed (at least I couldn't)) however it's so small it's hardly noticable unless the light hits it just right, so it doesn't bother me.

Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

Excellent training value for your $$. I own several of these. They are basically unbreakable, unlike oak or kamagong wood bokken, of which I have broken many. These polypro bokken are not as rigid as wood, so be aware of that. Also you'll want to put tape on the grip area, the polypro gets slippery when you're training and your hands are sweaty.

Not going to lie I expect this to be a complete s*** of a blade. Meaning like the cheap ones you get, were the blade rattles, you can remove everything with a single bolt, welded together on some little piece of metal, duller than a butter knife, rusty, easily bend, etc. This has been everything that but that, I was SHOCKED! Put together properly, not a single rattle sound, blade fit into the sheath, has a smooth unsheathing to it as well. Taking it apart was a little tough to how tightly the handle was fitted, which is good.The blade held up well against my friend's $1k Bungei sword, yes I compared a cheap Amazon sword to the glory of Bungei scream at me all you want.

The only drawback to the sword is it's not very sharp.I did buy a knife sharpener and used it for this blade and when done I wiped the blade down cut through the rag with scary ease.So sharpening the blade is the only thing I recommend.

This is a pretty nice sword however for the money there are better swords. When i received mine i saw on the blade that it appeared to have 2 hamons... yeah one was much more prominent than the other and its hardly noticeable and blade also looks scratchy. the tsuka was very nice and all the fittings were nice. All in all this is a good buy, you will be satisfied

Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

I love this sword! The coloring is beautiful and it came oiled with a plastic covering to protect the blade during shipping. I would have given it a full five stars, but the sheathe does not actually fit the blade, so the Katana knocks against the wood when it's sheathed, unlike the Mashiro that I bought earlier. This is an awesome weapon. Yes, weapon. This is not a toy or a show piece. This Katana came very sharp and battle ready. A few passes in my ceramic sharpener and it is razor sharp. The details, from the braided silk over sting ray skin hilt to the carbon steel blade are impressive. And I paid about half the price listed on the "Cold Steel" site. Bottom line... For anyone looking for an authentic cutting sword, this is a great choice. This is the more refined version of the Hanwei Practical Katana Sword. I did some research and this rated well in many sword enthsiast forums. It comes with a tag from Hanwei that provides a serial number to document that this is a Hanwei sword. The workmanship is so beautiful for a sword of this price that I have not had the heart to cut with it yet. I may just buy another one and keep one for decoration and dedicate the other for cutting practice.

I was very impressed by the quality of this katana when I pulled it out of the box. The blade was well made and came with a certificate of authenticity that detailed the basic qualities of the sword as a whole. I wouldn't say it was razor sharp but it was sharp enough to do the basic cut tests, in which it held as expected for it's particular price. The artwork on the handle is well crafted and gives it it's own unique look which I personally like. I would say it's better than average for its price, so if you want a better sword you'll need to pay more.
